Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are injectable skin boosters made from highly purified DNA fragments, derived from fresh-water trout bred in controlled European fish farms. Used in regenerative and aesthetic wellness, they help support the skin’s natural repair processes, improve hydration, and encourage a healthier, more balanced-looking complexion.

Known for their hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-supporting properties, polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts – the cells that produce collagen and elastin – while helping the skin retain moisture and manage oxidative stress. Over time, this can support smoother, firmer, and more resilient skin, which is why they’re often used for texture, tone, elasticity, and early signs of ageing.

They’re versatile: polynucleotides can be used on the face, body, and scalp, and work well either on their own or as a primer that supports the results of other treatments, such as microneedling, peels, energy-based devices, or fillers. In delicate areas such as the under-eyes, neck, and décolleté, they offer a gentle approach to skin quality. On the scalp, they may help support healthier follicular conditions and stronger, fuller-looking hair where thinning or fragility is a concern.

How do Polynucleotides work?

  • In the skin, polynucleotides stimulate fibroblast activity to support collagen and elastin production. They also attract and hold moisture, help calm inflammation, and create a better environment for skin renewal – supporting improved tone, texture, and elasticity.

  • On the scalp, they help support circulation and cellular regeneration around the hair follicles, which may contribute to healthier scalp conditions and stronger, fuller-looking hair over time.

What Can I Expect?

You’ll begin with a medical consultation, where a qualified practitioner assesses your skin or scalp, reviews your medical history, and discusses your goals. If polynucleotides are suitable, you’ll be talked through the treatment, its benefits, and possible side effects.
On the day, the area is cleansed and a topical anaesthetic may be applied for comfort before the polynucleotides are delivered through a series of fine micro-injections (or, in some cases, topically alongside microneedling). Sessions usually take around an hour, including preparation. Discomfort is generally minimal, and most people return to normal activities shortly afterwards, with aftercare guidance to follow.

Polynucleotides Benefits

  • Supports the skin’s natural collagen production, hydration, and repair

  • Helps improve texture, firmness, and tone, and can support scars and stretch marks

  • Versatile – used on the face, body, and scalp, on its own or to enhance other treatments

Frequently Asked Questions

Are polynucleotide treatments safe?

Yes. Polynucleotides are widely used in aesthetic and regenerative wellness and are generally well tolerated when administered by trained professionals. At Projuvenate, we use only high-purity, clinically tested formulations.

Who is not suitable for this treatment?

It isn’t recommended for people with fish allergies, certain medical conditions, or those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18. As the fragments are derived from fish DNA, it also isn’t suitable if you avoid animal-derived ingredients. Suitability is confirmed at your consultation.

What does a typical treatment course involve?

For skin, a typical course is three sessions spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart. Scalp treatments may need up to eight sessions. Maintenance is usually recommended every 6 to 12 months.

When will I see results?

Improvements in hydration and radiance can appear within 2 to 4 weeks. Firmer, more elastic skin develops gradually as collagen production increases, with fuller effects usually around three months.

Are there any side effects?

Mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites can occur but usually settles within a few days. Rarer risks, such as allergic reactions or infection, are discussed fully at your consultation.
