GOAL
Support and enhance skin cellular health to promote long-term radiance, resilience, and skin vitality.
CONCERN
Skin cellular health refers to the optimal performance, renewal, and structural integrity of skin cells. These functions play a vital role in maintaining hydration, elasticity, smoothness, and a strong skin barrier. Over time, both biological ageing and environmental stressors can disrupt these processes, leading to visible signs such as dullness, dryness, uneven tone, and reduced firmness.
Key contributors to cellular decline include oxidative stress, low-grade chronic inflammation (inflammaging), UV exposure, pollution, and glycation. These factors may affect mitochondrial function, reduce collagen and elastin, and weaken the extracellular matrix (ECM), all of which can slow natural regeneration and affect the skin’s appearance. Decreased levels of cellular fuels such as NAD⁺ and essential fatty acids like C15:0 may further compromise the skin’s ability to stay resilient and hydrated.
The skin microbiome, a diverse ecosystem of beneficial microorganisms, also plays a critical role. It helps support barrier strength, manage inflammation, and regulate immune responses. When the microbiome is imbalanced, skin may become more prone to visible sensitivity and discomfort.
Supporting skin cellular health involves a combination of preventative and appearance-focused strategies. Nutrition plays a foundational role. A diet rich in polyphenols, antioxidants, and healthy fats from sources like oily fish, plants, and whole-fat dairy may help support mitochondrial performance and structural integrity. Nutraceuticals such as NAD⁺ precursors or C15:0-based supplements are being explored for their role in cellular energy support and resilience. Daily sun protection and the use of microbiome-friendly skincare help preserve barrier function and minimise environmental stress.
In-clinic aesthetic wellness treatments can also support visible improvements in skin health by encouraging natural renewal processes. Non-invasive therapies that aim to improve skin texture, hydration, and firmness may contribute to a more radiant, resilient complexion over time.
