As we age, our bodies undergo various changes, many of which can impact intimate wellness. Hormonal fluctuations, particularly the decline in oestrogen during menopause, can lead to thinning of vaginal tissues, decreased elasticity, and reduced natural lubrication. These changes may result in discomfort during intimacy, increased susceptibility to infections, and a decrease in sexual satisfaction.
Additionally, the pelvic floor muscles, which support the bladder, uterus, and bowel, may weaken over time. This weakening can contribute to poor bladder control and diminished sexual function. Factors such as childbirth, chronic straining, and certain lifestyle habits can exacerbate these age-related changes.
Understanding these transformations is the first step toward proactive care. With the right support and interventions, it’s possible to alleviate discomfort, enhance intimate experiences, and improve overall quality of life.
